It was in 1957 that Alain Delon made ‘Quand la femme s'en mêle’, under the direction of Yves Allegret, thus starting a career that would see him making some 87 films under the guidance of cinema's most famous directors, from Antonioni to Melville as well as Visconti, Clément, Verneuil, Malle and Losey, just to mention a few.

In 1958, during the making of ‘Christine’, Alain Delon met Romy Scneider. Two years later it was with her, and under the direction of Visconti, that Delon played his first role in theatre. The play, ‘Dommage qu'elle soit une putain’, written by John Ford, ran for more than 8 months.

He became a cinema star in 1960, under the direction of René Clément, in ‘Plein Soleil’, adapted from the novel ‘Mr. Ripley’ by Patricia Highsmith, followed in 1961 by ‘Rocco et ses frères’, from Visconti which won the juries Special Prize at the Venice Film Festival.

Between 1962 and 1963 three of the films in which Delon appeared received the highest awards. ‘L'Eclipse’ by Antonioni won the juries Special Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, the following year ‘Le Guépard’ by Visconti won the Golden Palm at the same Festival and finally ‘Mélodie en sous-sol’, under the direction of Verneuil was rewarded in the United States with the ‘Golden Globe’ for best foreign language film. It was during the making of this classic police film that Alain Delon met Jean Gabin.

A short while before ‘La tulipe noire’, Alain Delon met Francine Canovas who he married and with whom in 1964, they had had a son Anthony. In 1967 the Delon couple made ‘Le Samouraï’, with Melville, before divorcing in 1968.

Still in 1968 Alain Delon made a notable new appearance in the theatre with a play written by his friend Jean Cau entitled ‘Les yeux crevés’. But the events of May 1968 meant that this success was limited to 22 performances before the theatre closed it's doors.

After he tried his talents as a producer in 1964 with ‘L'insoumis’, Alain Delon applied himself in this activity from 1968 and produced 26 films:

From ‘Jeff’, at the end of 1968, to ‘Dancing machine’ in 1990, and passing by ‘Borsalino’, ‘Madly’, ‘Doucement les basses’, ‘Le Professeur’, ‘Big Guns’, ‘Deux hommesdans la ville’, ‘Borsalino and Co’, ‘Le Gitan’ directed by J. Giovanni, ‘Flic Story’ adapted from the novel by Roger Borniche, ‘Comme un boomerang’ which he co-wrote the script with J. Giovanni, ‘Le Gang’, ‘Armaguedon’, ‘L'homme pressé’, ’Mort d'un pourri’, ‘Attention les enfants regardent’, ‘Le Toubib’, ‘Trois hommes à abattre’, ‘Parole de flic’, ‘Le passage’, ‘Ne réveillez pas un flic qui dort’.

In 1976, Alain Delon confided to J. Losey the production of ‘M. Klein’ rewarded the following year by three ‘César’ (film, director, decoration).

For ‘Le Battant’ and ‘Pour la peau d'un flic’ he took on both the role of producer and director.

It was in 1985 rhat Alain Delon received the ‘César’ as best actor for his film ‘Notre Histoire’ under the direction of Bertrand Blier.

In 1987 Alain Delon sang the song ‘Comme au Cinéma’ which became a video clip and a promotional tour duing which he met Rosalie van Breemen who became his companion and with whom he had two children, Anouchka and Alain-Fabien.

Almost thirty years after ‘Les yeux crevés’, he returned to the stage in 1996, with ‘Variations énigmatiques’ by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt at the Théâtre Marigny in Paris.

In 1998, he worked again with Jean Paul Belmondo for the film of Patrice Leconte, ‘Une chance sur deux’, with Vanessa Paradis.

Before he announced that he was ending his career in cinema he accepted, in 1999, to appear in a film of Bertrand Blier, ‘les Acteurs’, during which he paid homage to Gabin, Ventura, Bourvil, Montand, Signoret and de Funès.

In 2001, fourteen years after ‘Cinéma’ with Edwige Feuillère, Alain Delon went back to television for the Marseilles trilogy by Jean Claude Izzo, ‘Fabio Montale’ for TF1, then in 2003 with the series ‘Frank Riva’ and with the adaptation of the novel by Kessel ‘Le Lion’. In 2004 he made 3 new episodes of ‘Frank Riva’ which will be shown at the end of 2004 and early 2005 on France 2.

He is back on stage again in October 2004 for 100 perfomances of ‘Les Montagnes Russes’, a play by Eric Assous, at the Marigny Theatre, with Astrid Veillon.

During the Summer 2006 he plays Julius Cesar in the super production of Thomas Langman, realised by Frédéric Forestier "Astérix aux Jeux Olympiques". Amoung the actors there are Gérard Depardieu, Clovis Cornillac, Benoît Poelvoorde, Jean Pierre Cassel et Stéphane Rousseau.

From September 2006 he rehearses with Mireille Darc the adaptation of "The Bridges of Madison County" from Robert James Waller. A movie adaptation realized by Clint Eastwood was very successful in 1995 with Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep in the main roles. Mireille and Alain will be playing their adaptation, directed by Anne Bourgeois (who had previously realized "Les Montagnes Russes") in Paris, at the Marigny Theatre early 2007.

In the sporting world he has organized in France the World Boxing Championships featuring ‘Bouttier / Monzon’ then ‘Monzon / Napolès’, before creating a horse racing team with which he won the World Champion title for trotter with his horse ‘Equileo’.

In 1978 he created his own brand and in Geneva formed the company ‘Alain Delon Diffusion SA’. His first perfume, ‘AD’, had imediate commercial success. I twas followed in 1981 with a perfume for women, ‘Le Temps d'Aimer’. These two product lines, after more than 20 years of huge success, have been replaced by other fragrances such as ‘Samouraï’, which is part of the Top 5 best sellers in Japan, ‘Samouraï Woman’, ‘Shogun’ and ‘Samouraï Woman Pinkberry’. Champagne, Cognac, watches, glasses, clothing and accessories progressively completed his range.
