Shorts are an annual hot topic (pun intended) in many offices. Should a grown man wear shorts outside of vacation? The pro- and anti- shorts parties are constantly fighting each other uncompromisingly. While enthusiasts who are always hot won't let them go, traditionalists turn up their noses at the sight of a man's exposed legs.
At Alain Delon, we're here to answer the most complicated fashion questions humanity has ever encountered. We love a challenge, so this time we've set out to definitively resolve the eternal "shorts" debate.
Choose pants that fit you
First of all, it is important for each of us to look in the mirror and lay our cards on the table. What do my legs look like? Are they long, thin, muscular? This should logically tell you what cut of shorts is ideal for you. With normal long pants, you don't have to think about these factors logically, but they are all the more important if you are going to reveal eighty percent of your legs to the world.
If you have muscular legs, super tight ones probably won't be right for you. Likewise, if you're tall, it's best to avoid super short swimsuit cuts.
The color of your legs is just as important as their shape. If you have naturally pale legs, avoid light shades and opt for navy or brown. Conversely, if you have tanned legs, paler colors will look great on you.
All the shorts you'll ever need
Once you've dealt with the critical self-evaluation of your figure, it's time to choose the right shorts. Just as there is no one shoe for all occasions, it's best to have a variety of options in your closet for the hot summer months.
Chinos command the front
The best and most versatile choice is undoubtedly chinos, simple trousers with slanted pockets. Like their long-legged brother, in their short version they are also among the most versatile trousers, in which you will look great whether you are going for a drink on holiday or to the office (although we will come back to this topic in a moment). Choose ones that end two to three centimeters above the knees and pay attention to the right cut. What does this mean? If you have thin legs, buy a slim cut, if not, go for a non-narrowed one.
The only thing to be careful about is combining pale pants with a white polo shirt if you don't want to be mistaken for a swimming pool employee.
Swimsuits outside the pool?
If you haven't heard, swim shorts aren't just for swimming anymore. Paired with a linen shirt or simple polo shirt, retro sunglasses, and leather sandals, these swimsuits will take you from the beach to the bar faster than you can say piña colada.
Especially with swimsuit shorts, you can go crazy with patterns and colors, which is something you should avoid with shorts.
However, remember to take into account that these pants usually end much higher than regular shorts, so it is important to remember that this look loses its appeal in direct proportion to the increase in the number of kilometers from the water.
Can you really wear shorts everywhere?
Well, while we're on the subject of when and where to wear shorts , we come to the burning question from the introduction: Can a man really wear shorts for every occasion?
On the one hand, it is true that in recent years we have seen a greater penetration of leisure fashion into all spheres of life than perhaps ever before. Therefore, what was considered unthinkable ten years ago is now common practice.
When it comes to shorts, we at Alain Delon try to stick to a simple rule that can be applied in life, not only to such seemingly trivial things; respect your surroundings. For example, you are going to be a guest at an informal country wedding. Is the comfort of your calves worth the hateful look of the bride who will regret inviting you the moment she sees you?
