The walking route to Lake Železná studnička is bordered by the Vydrický stream, which once powered the wheels of grain mills. It is thanks to them that this area is named Mlynská dolina and many historians consider it the oldest industrial zone in Bratislava. Although it has changed over the years and transformed into a recreational zone, its origins are work. And since we at Alain Delon appreciate honest Slovak work, we would be happy to take you on a walk to learn about history with us.
According to written records, there were nine mills on Vydrica in the 13th-14th centuries. Most of them were destroyed by floods at the beginning of the 19th century. Those that survived the flood served their original purpose for a few more decades. Later, they became guesthouses, restaurants, apartments, but also offices. The once-famous Seventh Mill is currently the headquarters of the Slovak Monuments Authority, for example, and you probably wouldn't notice anything about it that would speak of its glorious past.
