Chystáte sa na ples? Pripravte si správny outfit

An old English proverb says: “Dress to impress.” Loosely translated: “You dress to impress.” And when it comes to proms, this proverb is especially true. Unfortunately, when choosing the right outfit, one has to consider so many options of what is and is not appropriate for a prom that it can easily give even the most experienced a headache. Don’t worry, Alain Delon Journal is here to guide you through the intricacies of the men’s Black Tie dress code.

First, let's start with the basics: A black tie outfit, which is the dress code for most balls, traditionally consists of a tuxedo, white shirt, black bow tie, and black shoes. The tuxedo itself should be made of wool with a touch of silk, and it should fit well—not too tight, not too loose. It's important to invest in a quality tuxedo that will stand the test of time, as you'll be wearing it not only at balls , but it's also a great choice for other formal events, such as going to the opera.

Let's start with the basics - the tuxedo

The first important decision you will face when choosing a tuxedo is its color. The traditional choice that you can really go wrong with is black, but navy blue is also acceptable. A blue tuxedo can be a stylish and unique alternative to the classic black version and is often considered a bit more fashionable. However, it is important to remember that a blue tuxedo is less formal than a black one, and may not be suitable for all types of events you are going to.

When it comes to tuxedo jackets, you have two options to choose from, a shawl lapel or a peak lapel. A shawl lapel tuxedo jacket has a continuous curve around the collar, creating a smooth, elegant silhouette. This style is a traditional choice for Black Tie events like prom, and is also suitable for all more formal occasions.

On the other hand, a peaked tuxedo jacket has lapels that flare up and out, creating a more dramatic and eye-catching look. This style is a little less formal than a shawl lapel and is a fantastic choice if you're going somewhere where things are a little less starched.

While tuxedo pants may not look like suit pants at first glance, there are a few important details that make them stand out. First of all, the pants feature a thin side stripe, usually made of silk, that runs along the outside seam of the pants, adding a bit of shine. It's a subtle yet stylish detail that will add a touch of sophistication to your Black Tie outfit.

Don't take just any shirt out of the closet.

There are several different types of appropriate dress shirts that you can pair with a tuxedo. A classic white shirt with French cuffs is always a safe choice.

The most traditional option, however, is a white shirt with a wing collar, which is a collar that stands upright and has two points protruding outward. This shirt should be made of high-quality cotton fabric and, again like a tuxedo, should fit well – not too tight, not too loose.

Another option is a pleated shirt, which features small, subtle folds of fabric across the front of the shirt. This style adds a touch of texture and visual interest to the outfit, but isn't quite as timeless as the wing collar option.

Accessories should complement an outfit, not accentuate it.

Now that you have all the main parts of your Black Tie outfit sorted out, it's time for accessories. Black dress shoes are a must, they should be shiny and, most importantly, clean. The bow tie should be made of silk and should match the color of your tuxedo. You can also choose a pre-tied one, but the traditional tie not only looks more elegant, but you can also throw it untied over your shoulder late at night, James Bond style. ( We have recorded a simple procedure for tying it in a video tutorial for you. )

If you're feeling bold, you can also experiment with a colorful or patterned bow tie, but make sure it's tasteful and in keeping with the formality of the event.

If you're a traditionalist, don't forget a sash that will elegantly complete your outfit. It should be the same color as your bow tie and, most importantly, worn with the folds facing up so that you can slip a coin into it for the cloakroom.

(Sashes and cufflinks are available in various colors and designs in our stores.)

As for the belt, leave it at home. Tuxedos should be worn without one because the pants have adjustable flaps, which allow you to adjust the width of the pants exactly to your needs.

When it comes to jewelry, less is sometimes more. All you need is a simple watch and a wedding ring (if you have one). If you want to add a little more sparkle, consider choosing a slightly bolder pair of cufflinks or a statement clip.

It's clear that the Black Tie dress code can seem a bit daunting at first. However, if you follow our tips and focus on the right fit and quality, you will undoubtedly easily put together a stylish and elegant outfit that will definitely impress at your next ball. Have fun.
