Objavte s nami Brno!
Weekend travel is gaining momentum, and we at Žurnále Alain Delon are constantly looking for destinations worth visiting for a few days. While many of us are still drawn to travel far abroad, we don't even realize what we can find close to home. Just an hour from our western borders, you can find a city that has the true atmosphere of a modern metropolis, without the crowded streets full of tourists. Welcome to undiscovered Brno.

Hotel Barcelo Brno Palace

Stay: Barceló Brno Palace

Immediately upon arrival, take a five-minute walk from the train station to the Barceló Hotel. The hotel in the narrow center is one of the best not only in Brno. The modern architecture set in a historic building offers an unusual contrast between traditional and contemporary Brno. However, there will be enough time to enjoy the hotel, now quickly into the whirlwind of night Brno.

Go for dinner.

Lokál

Local

The great concept of a traditional Czech pub from Ambiente has finally found its way to Brno. If you're in the mood to immediately jump into a good Pilsner and traditional Czech specialties upon arrival, look no further. At Lokál, they serve you everything just like in the old days, using the best ingredients from local producers, in short, Czech classics without any flavorings or semi-finished products. Don't forget to book a place at least a week in advance, though, as Lokál has been a top destination in Brno since its opening.

Bistro Franz

Bistro Franz

If you want to soak up the atmosphere of university Brno, head to Bistro Franz for lunch. The small bistro on Veveří combines everything that is wonderful about Brno. Modern minimalist architecture, great food and a bunch of young people. Dishes made from seasonal ingredients, which change regularly, will turn even an ordinary lunch into a culinary experience.

Have a drink.

Bar, který neexistuje

A bar that doesn't exist

If you don't visit a place where people are willing to travel hundreds of kilometers, it's as if you weren't even in Brno. The bar decorated in the style of the thirties is no longer a hidden treasure of the city. So book your table well in advance of your visit and if you're lucky, you'll be able to sip drinks like you've never had before in a packed bar. Whether you're craving classics like a Whiskey Sour or a Bloody Mary, or something a little more special, Bar, který vysobní svoje, apart from infusing its own alcohol with herbs, has the best and most exotic types of whiskey, gin and absinthe on the counter.

Super panda cirkus

Super Panda Circus

One of the most surreal and at the same time one of the most fun experiences ever awaits you in the younger child of the owners of the Bar that doesn't exist. That is, assuming you manage to find the panda. The inconspicuous, unmarked door on Šilingrov Square is part of the game that begins after you ring the bar's bell. If you've come across the right door, you'll be entering an indescribable world. In an experimental bar inspired by Japanese culture, you can try the craziest drinks you've ever dreamed of.
The two-time winners of the Czech Barman Awards launched a new menu a few days ago, so be sure not to miss this bizarre experience that you will remember for years to come.

What to do all weekend

Vila Tugendhat

Brno has something for everyone. In the morning, however, be sure to head to Villa Tugendhat, a magnificent house considered one of the most prominent examples of pre-war architecture by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. It’s hard to believe that this imposing, beautifully furnished structure was designed in 1928, not 2016. After visiting the villa, exploring Brno’s famous coffee scene is a must. Stop for an espresso or filter coffee at one of the countless cafes. Whether you’re in the area, you can’t go wrong with Caffe Mitte, V Melounovém Cukru or Coffee Fusion. But if you fancy something completely different, head a little further out of the centre to Industra Coffee, a café located in an industrial warehouse.

Moravská galerie v Brne

In the afternoon, head to the Moravian Gallery, which, in addition to exhibits of modern art and design, will delight every architecture lover. Until the end of October, you even have the chance to catch the 27th International Biennial of Graphic Design in the gallery and see the best of graphic design in recent times.
Everyone should end their visit to Brno with a visit to the theatre. Brno theatres are often the birthplaces of the greatest stars of Czech acting, so be sure not to miss any of the performances. Our favourite is the Goose on a String Theatre, where we recently had the opportunity to see a wonderful production of Dostoevsky's Prince Myshkin is an Idiot.
