Prečo aj zodpovedné a udržateľné značky robia výpredaje
How do you live? Fast? Slow? The lifestyle of many people has been really fast in recent years. The corona crisis has slowed down not only our lives, the fast pace of work, but also our purchasing decisions. The question is whether this will be enough to make us shop and live more consciously and responsibly in the long term . The fashion industry has really accelerated in recent years. The more accessible fashion has become for people, the faster many less high-quality brands produce new and new collections. In stores, collections are replaced after just a few weeks. When the “older” collection, which is supposed to make way for the newer one, does not sell, massive sales and discounts begin, often below the manufacturing cost. Just so that brands can get rid of clothing and speed up their production even more.

Fast fashion vs. Slow fashion

Fortunately, brands that sew slower, more sustainably, more responsibly, and most importantly, with better quality are increasingly coming to the fore. Because, of course, the faster a given item is made, the lower its quality and it definitely won't last as long as an item that is made with attention to every detail. Because there's time for that.

The contrast between so-called fast fashion and slow fashion brands is obvious. Even though the production process is very similar in the main points, the difference lies in the details such as high-quality and ecological materials , sophisticated and timeless cuts, precise sewing, fairly evaluated people in tailoring workshops, minimal error rate and the main difference – fewer collections.

When less is more

Slow fashion brands usually create two collections a year – they present trends for spring/summer and autumn/winter. We have already written several articles about how we create collections . Our spring/summer (or autumn/winter) collection does not go into stores and onto the e-shop website all at once. We sew it gradually – it is influenced by seasonality, weather trends (if it is still summer temperatures in September, people will not be interested in winter turtlenecks), and therefore by the demand of you, our customers. Our production is systematic and thoughtful. We design collections not only with fashion trends in mind, but also with practicality and wearability. We constantly try to optimize our inventory according to customer interest, which is why we create collections as soon as possible in advance. We purchase materials in smaller batches in several types so that the offer in our stores is sufficiently varied. So if slow fashion brands produce more slowly, everything should be sold gradually and responsible brands shouldn't even have sales, right?

So why do sustainable brands also give discounts?

It's great if a brand manages to sell out its entire collection, but it's not that common for supply to meet demand 100%. That's why responsible brands also go on sales (usually twice a year). The goal of these discounts is not to encourage unnecessary purchases, but rather to make sustainable fashion, which may be less affordable for some, more accessible to a larger number of customers. You might get clothes you've liked for a long time, or you might find something that's missing from your wardrobe, and we'll free up space in our warehouse for pieces from a new collection that's already in the works. A win-win situation. Of course, you have to take into account that not all pieces of clothing and all sizes will be on sale. It's possible that they will sell out as soon as they hit stores and the e-shop .
If you want to shop at sales in a truly responsible way, taking into account not only your wallet but also the environment, choose timeless pieces, look at the quality of the stitching, and be interested in how and where the clothes were made. You can find more tips in this article .
