Ventilation
Knitwear, especially wool, has a natural self-cleaning ability. Simply let it air out after wearing and only wash it when absolutely necessary. Avoid unnecessary washing, which can weaken the material and cause pilling or deformation.
Washing
If washing is necessary, select the “wool” or “hand wash” program with a maximum temperature of 30°C . Use a mild detergent designed for wool or cashmere and avoid fabric softener. This can coat the fibers and reduce their breathability and elasticity. As a result, your sweater may start to smell. rather and appear unformed.
Stains
If a stain appears on your sweater, treat it immediately with a mild detergent and let it air dry. It is often not necessary to wash the entire piece. Spot cleaning is both gentler and more effective.
Drying
Never hang sweaters and pullovers wet. They can stretch and lose their shape. Ideally, dry them flat on a towel, in the shade and away from radiators or direct heat. If you do dry them on a clothesline, hang them across the width of your chest, under your armpits .
Do not use a dryer, even if it has a program for knitwear. Most knit materials are too sensitive to high temperatures and your sweater could quickly shrink and become deformed.
Ironing
Knitwear usually does not require ironing. If necessary, use gentle steam from a safe distance or the "wool" program. Allow the garment to cool completely before wearing.
Pilling is not a defect
Pilling is a natural phenomenon , especially with wool and cashmere. It is the loosening of shorter fibers that come to the surface during wear. You can remove the pilling with a soft fabric brush or a quality pilling remover.
Storage
Never hang knitwear. It will stretch over time, especially in the shoulders. It is best to store them folded.
For long-term storage, keep them in an airtight container and add cedar wood or a lavender sachet. They will protect them from moths and also add a pleasant scent to your wardrobe.
Pullovers and sweaters are delicate materials, but with proper care they will last for years and retain their original appearance. Just follow a few simple rules and your favorite knitwear will look like new even after long wear.
