What is a cocktail dress code?
Simply put: it is an elegant, but not too formal style of dress. It stands somewhere between a "lounge suit" and a "black tie" . It is intended for social events that require level and style, but not a tuxedo . Typically, these are evening receptions, celebrations, gallery visits, theater premieres or corporate parties .
A suit is essential, but it doesn't have to be strictly formal. It's important that it looks sophisticated, polished, and with a touch of charm .
What to wear?
Suit
The basis is a dark suit. Ideally dark blue or black , calmly with a subtle sheen. The material can be smooth or with a subtle structure. The cut should be narrow and well-fitting, without unnecessary contrasts.
Shirt
Simple, clean and light - white or light blue . It can have a soft texture, but avoid patterns or contrasting buttons.
Tie
A silk tie in a subtle color or pattern is best, but you can also opt for a narrow necktie for a more modern effect.
Shoes
Leather, closed, elegant. Oxfords, derbies or loafers in black or dark brown. Their clean and well-maintained appearance is important.
Accessories
The pocket square in the jacket, the watch, the cufflinks - everything is delicately and harmoniously matched.
What to avoid?
Jeans and sneakers - cocktail is not casual.
Distinctive patterns , glittering details or brightly colored jackets.
Overly formal "business" look - don't look like you just left the office.
Cocktail = charming balance
Cocktail dress code is about balancing elegance and casualness . You have room to show your personality, but at the same time remain refined and stylish. Choose traditional elegance, add a subtle personal touch and the result will be an outfit that impresses without trying too hard.
