Alain Delon The Journal is constantly looking for people who excel in their field. Exceptional musicians, sculptors, writers... They couldn't be more different from each other, and yet they are similar in many ways. Slovaks who have managed to amaze the world with their work. And while many see success as synonymous with wealth and fame, the truly talented know that success means changing the world for the better with their work . Whether it's art, sports, or business. We are proud that we have once again come across people who, with their innovative ideas, are trying to do nothing less than change the way we consume information, read books, listen to music, and watch movies. We present to you DECENT.
However, if you think this is a simple application or some kind of strange e-shop with digital content, you are very wrong.
"People trust a third party. The fact that you get what you really want for your money is guaranteed by the institution you trust. When you buy through Amazon, you have a guarantee of their solidity. However, DECENT has found a perfect replacement for any of these third parties," continues the explanation of the platform's chief architect Josef Ševčík.
The explanation comes at the speed of light from Sandra Wantrubová , DECENT's community manager, whose job it is to explain the benefits of the DECENT platform to people outside the blockchain community.
“Many current network operators recommend content to you that is not necessarily good for the user. They often recommend products that they are interested in recommending to you. Our platform breaks this down.”
"Ask people what they would like me to make and they will say faster horses." - Henry FordThe DECENT platform, whose roots can be found deep in the heart of Slovakia, is still relatively unknown outside the professional community, despite its amazing idea. That is why a few minutes before meeting the team behind its initial success, we were accompanied by a slight uncertainty. Is it possible to understand the complexity of the issues they are dealing with in less than thirty minutes? – was the question in our heads. However, the first few moments were enough and it was clear to us that we would not only get under DECENT's skin, but would even become truly passionate about it.
"DECENT is a platform that we are creating for the distribution of digital content, text, music, video. It is, simply put, a DECENTRALIZED Amazon ," DECENT co-founder Matej Michalko briefly introduced us to the issue. He has seen a problem with the usual distribution of content on the Internet for many years. "If you want to write articles today, or distribute another type of content, you have to publish it on reputable websites or sell it through another third party. However, this third party, such as Apple iTunes, takes significant commissions for the content you distribute through it. DECENT is here so that the fee for which I want to buy a given thing goes directly to the author," continues Matej.
An international team of people with bases in different corners of the globe from Bratislava to Shanghai is thinking about how to bring Blockchain into everyday life everywhere in the world."We use the new Blockchain technology, which is actually a database stored on thousands of computers. A copy of this database is everywhere in the computer network, which guarantees that it cannot be changed by anyone or anything. In short, it DECENTRALIZES trust. The third party is therefore located everywhere, without it having to be a huge corporation that takes significant commissions from every film, book or album. The system controls itself. The idea is to guarantee the functionality of the system while removing the intermediary that takes money from authors and makes content more expensive," adds Matej Michalko while sipping his green tea. This all sounds very good, but the question arises: how will the average person access such content? What use will such technology be to ordinary people? The answer to this question is what makes this technology company a dark horse for the coming years. An international team of people with bases in different corners of the globe from Bratislava to Shanghai is thinking about how to bring Blockchain into everyday life everywhere in the world.
“Our goal is to integrate DECENT into various devices, such as e-book readers or smart TVs. We want to make a system for real people who won’t even know that the things they use work on our platform. The only thing they will see is more content, as authors can add content to the ecosystem for free, while by removing the third party and their fees, we will reduce the price of the content,” says Matej Michalko. Blockchain technologies have accompanied him almost his entire professional life, during which he seeks their use in various spheres of society. However, if anyone can add a video or article to the DECENT platform, how will the reader know which content is worth looking at and which is not?
The good ones, based on the evaluation, can build their reputation and become successful based solely on the quality of their work and nothing else.”"DECENT also democratizes content. It doesn't matter if you're a filmmaker from Switzerland or the US, you both have the same starting position. Every content creator on the Decent platform is rated, just like hotels on booking.com, for example." However, it is not beneficial for booking.com to have negative reviews for hotels. The DECENT protocol is written to be decentralized and immutable , so no one can edit or delete reviews. This is a guarantee of separating quality from poor content creators . The good ones can build their reputation and become successful based on the quality of their work and nothing else.” What has attracted the attention of the wider public about the DECENT project, however, is paradoxically its by-product, the DCT currency . Even those who have spent the last few years on a deserted island have heard of cryptocurrencies like bitcoin. However, they have a rather speculative image in the eyes of the lay public. The cryptocurrency in the DECENT platform has the exact opposite role. "The internal currency of the DCT protocol is something like bitcoin. It is the fuel for the DECENT network. All background payments will be made in this currency, even if the user pays in euros, dollars or yen. This is to make all transactions transparent, immutable and fully auditable. No one can credit their account or steal anything. It is mathematically and cryptographically perfectly secure ," assures Matej Michalko.
The goal is to get the idea out not only to people in the blockchain community, but especially to the general public.Dialogue with the general public is therefore key for DECENT, and as Sandra says, the goal is to get the idea out not only to people in the blockchain community, but especially to the general public . DECENT's success story really shows that they are doing a great job on all fronts. In the second round of funding, money for the project was raised through a crowdfunding campaign in the form of a DCT pre-sale, raising over €3 million. The gentlemen and ladies of DECENT have thus achieved the first step in the form of long-term financing and sustainability of the development of the protocol. The second, as they themselves say, the creation of a system that will cover the world's needs, is still waiting for them. However, we have no doubt that it is only a matter of time. When you read a success story with the name DECENT in a few years, we hope that you will remember where you first heard about it. Read the Alain Delon Journal. Photo: Pavol Zachar www.zacharphoto.com
