Polo shirts and T-shirts are an integral part of a man's wardrobe. We wear them every day, which is why they deserve proper care. If you take good care of them, they will last a long time , retaining their shape and color. Here's how.
Washing
Washing polo shirts and T-shirts is not a science. You just need to learn a few basic rules that apply to most everyday clothing . Check the label. Each material has its own characteristics. Some polo shirts contain elastane, others linen or viscose . Therefore, care may vary slightly. Always check the manufacturer's recommendations on the label before washing for the first time. Wash inside out. Turning a T-shirt or polo shirt inside out before washing reduces friction with other items and helps preserve the color and surface of the fabric. Select a delicate wash. When choosing a wash cycle, select a short cycle, delicate or hand wash. The recommended temperature is max. 30 °C . Set the spin speed to low, ideally up to 800 rpm. Turn on the buttons. If the polo shirt has buttons, turn them on. This will prevent the collar from deforming. Do not use fabric softener. Fabric softener can damage natural fibers and reduce their functionality. It is better to skip it altogether.
Drying
The dryer is not suitable for polo shirts or T-shirts. High temperatures can cause the fabric to shrink or the collar to deform. It is much better to let them dry freely on a drying rack or hung on a hanger . However, avoid direct sunlight, which can fade the colors over time.
Ironing
If you wash and dry your polo shirt or T-shirt properly, you usually don't need to iron it . If you still want to iron out small creases, iron it inside out and at a low temperature . Avoid ironing over embroidery or logos. If you're interested in how to iron other items, such as shirts, check out our video tutorial .
Storage
It is better to fold knitted polo shirts than to hang them to prevent them from stretching. You can safely hang other models on a hanger to prevent wrinkles. If you do not have enough space to hang them, fold them as follows : - Place the polo shirt or T-shirt on a flat surface. - Fold the sides inwards, fold the sleeves on top. - Fold the bottom towards the collar. - Turn. - Finally, gently pull all four corners to smooth out any small creases.
