LETNÉ ČÍTANIE

It takes time to delve deeply into quality literature. After all, a good book deserves to be given our full attention. It is our duty to the author. In today's fast-paced world, however, we often put off things that are worth it until they suddenly disappear from our world. And literature meets this fate all too often. Summer is therefore the ideal time when most of us can take a breather. To escape the cycle of work and obligations.

We at Alain Delon like to use the summer moments to catch up on the neglected. We like to pay attention to a quality book. However, choosing the right one from endless recommendations can be a superhuman feat.
That's why we asked the experts in the field to share their tips for summer reading. In the comfort of the Artforum bookstore café on Koza Street, bookseller and editor Viktor Suchý talked to us about the books that are worth your time this summer.

In love with Paris

Andrea Pukova and Peter Župník Petrus Publishing House

“Andrea Pukova’s book is a guide to cafes and restaurants for lovers of the French capital, and especially literature. Each place in the book is associated with different writers, writers, or people and their stories. The texts in the book are wonderfully complemented by photographs by the famous Slovak photographer Peter Župník, who lives in Paris. The authors obtained the funds for the first edition of the book through crowdfunding, and thanks to the great support of the project, the book sold out very quickly. Now it is being published in its second edition.” You can purchase the book here.

Famous spas of Slovakia

Matúš Dulla (ed.) Foibos Publishing House

"The large pictorial publication talks about places that are a bit out of the ordinary. Spa towns have a special relaxed atmosphere, time runs slower here. Their architecture is exceptional and reminiscent of various other places in the world. Many spa towns still retain a unique charisma." You can purchase the book here.

So one more spring then

JH Krchovsky Guest, Brno

"Although it is bold to promote poetry in this place, the latest poetry collection by JH Krchovský is definitely worth reading. Behind the pseudonym lies a neo-decadent poet. In his work, one can find, on the one hand, an unfortunate man who struggles in life, but on the other hand, a humorist who makes a good day out of his bad days." You can purchase the book here.

Guesthouse of memories

Tony Judt translated by Julia Sherwood Published by Salon

penzion_spomienok_alain_delon

"An outstanding British historian, author of a respected history of post-war Europe. After being diagnosed with ALS, he was able to dictate three excellent books on his deathbed. Pension of Memories is the most personal. It consists of a collection of journal essays in which Judt recalls various stages of his life and connects them with stages set in the framework of history." You can purchase the book here.

Planes of life

Julian Barnes translated by Pavel Vilikovský Artforum

"An excellent book by the living classic of English literature, Julian Barnes, is a story of love and deep grief. In the book, the author meditates on the things that lift us to the heights and then bring us back to earth. The book has three parts, in which the author takes us among the pioneers of balloon flying in the nineteenth century, introduces us to the love story of a trusting English colonel and a French actress. The testimony of a person who has lost a loved one is powerful, with a touch of an autobiographical essay." You can purchase the book here.

Snow flurries

Pavel Vilikovsky Slovart

letmy_sneh_alain_delon

"Fleeting Snow is a novel about difficult life situations, written with the charm and style of an Englishman. In Vilikovsky's Flying Snow, one can find many parallels with Julian Barnes's Planes of Life. The book is in the current final ten of the Anasoft Litera award, which Vilikovský has won twice in the past - as the only author. You can purchase the book here.
