There's a good reason why Hollywood took the old, familiar story of The Great Gatsby and turned it into one of the most amazing reincarnations of the story last year, starring DiCaprio. Filmmakers have always loved the story.
Disillusioned by the horrors of war, but enjoying the fruits of a strong post-war economy, Americans indulged in alcohol and dancing; all the more so since alcohol was strictly prohibited during the Prohibition era.
Decadence, excess, and grandeur are common themes throughout the book. Nothing else could be expected from the vivid descriptions of parties in the vast mansions of Long Island at the time.
The Great Gatsby himself is the embodiment of the American Dream, but also its deceit. A man who rose from nothing to the top of the ladder for all the wrong reasons. His pursuit of wealth, to overcome his childhood poverty, and to win THAT girl (Daisy Buchanan) are the symbolic themes of the book - a masterpiece of symbols, hidden meanings, and double entendres.
DiCaprio looked just as good in his dapper 1930s suits as Redford did in the 1970s film version of the story. But this time, his image couldn't be more on-trend. Men around the world are beginning to embrace the beauty of true men's fashion. Suits and tailored suits are replacing casual wear. Because time is so precious to us, we like to make the most of every minute, and fashion is the perfect medium for that.
Dressing is like acting. By putting on the perfect suit, you are not only dressing for work, but you have the opportunity to rediscover yourself. The opportunity to create a new Self; to play “Your role” in the small theater of your life. Whether it is fashion, a great book or a great film - their quality elevates the small joys of life into Moments. Our Alain Delon collective is happy to introduce you to some of them.
