One feels that science is being made of almost everything. Speculating too much about things gives many people headaches. What wine to choose? What variety of apples to buy? How to dress for an evening that is neither formal nor informal? Why does everything have to be analyzed?
Knowledge and human insight is what moves us forward, what makes us better. What fabric to use, what stitch. The deeper you delve into a topic, the more you are amazed and want to know more and more. And that makes your work constantly better, more precise, of higher quality. That's exactly what Bratislava's Brew Bar Café is trying to do. The small space in Freshmarket pushes the boundaries of coffee preparation. It takes you on a journey through a world you've never known before.
The story begins at the bar. Have you ever bought coffee from Costa Rica because you like “Costa Rica”? Owner and barista in one person, Dávid Frajt, will introduce you to a completely new dimension. You can choose coffee not only with the country of origin, but also the exact place of maturation and variety. All, of course, supplemented by the roasting date, which never exceeds thirty days. Only in this way can you guarantee the quality and freshness of the selected coffee.
Does this seem unnecessarily complicated to you? After all, even in a restaurant you don't ask for boxed French wine, but for quality, archive Bordeaux.
The journey of knowledge continues with preparation. As one of the first third wave cafes in Slovakia, Brew Bar offers, in addition to traditional espresso, many forms of alternative coffee preparation such as Chemex, Hario V60, Aeropress, or Vacuum pot. Devices that resemble a laboratory rather than a cafe can prepare filtered coffee that will reveal completely new experiences to you. Suddenly you will find the taste of citrus, chocolate, jasmine flowers in the coffee. You will discover that coffee does not have to be just a bitter black liquid used to wake you up.
If you still feel like a good old espresso, Dávid will prepare it for you on a handmade La Marzocco coffee machine. Again, a phenomenon never seen in our latitudes.
However, your coffee experience doesn't have to end when you leave the café. Brew Bar is unique in that it sells select coffee from the best roasters in the world, such as the German Barn, the British Hasbean, and last but not least, the Slovak roaster Green Plantation. It was the gentlemen from Green Plantation who inspired Dávid to make coffee his hobby and his job. It's no wonder they are among the top roasters not only in Europe.
